"Incredibly tasteful, mixing the dark jazz sensibility of Pat Martino with the tasteful chords and searing lead work of David Gilmore" - JazzReview.com

One-part jazz-head, one-part acoustic fingerstylist and the rest a mix of progressive rock and a whole lot of soul, guitarist Fred Valdez is best described as a "guitarist's guitarist". Mixing virtuosity with carefully thought out songwriting and melodic construction, Fred's guitar playing has spanned across contemporary jazz, acoustic rock and electronic music and earned him the respect of both audiences and fellow musicians.

The Queens, New York native has layed it down with a variety of respected musicians including John Abercrombie, Rodney Jones (Blue Note recording artist), Rachel Z (Wayne Shorter/Peter Gabriel), DJ Boo (Juggaknots), Dave Sharma (Bombay Dreams), Austrialian phenom Max Sharam and Billboard chart favorites Shahin & Sepehr, with whom he was a featured soloist on their 2002 release Nostalgia (Higher Octave/EMI).

As a leader, Fred fronted the acclaimed funk-acid-jazz trio QB3, whose debut CD "The Form Of Space" was a favorite on national college radio stations and was featured on several MTV/Vh1 series such as Fraternity Life/Sorority Life.

A convergence of ambient, rock and drum and bass electronica has surfaced in Root Valdez, his second project with drummer Christopher Heinz and featuring Leslie Graves on vocals/words.

As a producer, Fred works with various New York-based artists, joining together his experience as a musician and his intimate knowledge of the recording studio.
